First Attempt at No-Knead Bread - No-knead bread seems to be a popular topic. I plan to continue experimenting to find a recipe that produces a great loaf with very little effort. I might give Jeff Hertzberg’s recipe one more go, but then I’ll try Jim Lahey’s version.

Most Viewed:

Nonstick Coating Safety - While published at the end of April, it was the second most viewed behind my first attempt at no-knead bread.

My Favorites:

Cost Analysis of No-Knead Bread - I am trying to find ways to save money on food once I move out this summer, and I found this comparison pretty interesting. I was surprising how close in price you could make a good fresh loaf of bread compared to a cheap, $1 loaf of supermarket sliced bread.

Basic Grilled Lamb with Rosemary and Thyme - This recipe just turned out delicious.

Homemade Whipped Cream - I like posts about the science behind cooking and found this very interesting.

What’s Happening in June?

June will be a busy month since I am finishing up a quarter in school and then leaving for New York for five days. I have three goals for the site. First, I want to get moving on my ideas for a series or two. One will follow the Professional Chef’s Knife Kit by the Culinary Institute of America. The other series is covering a culinary textbook or book on techniques to learn some basics. I am still collecting and evaluating books, so it may be a little longer before this is moving. Another series I am considering is to go through the basic recipes of How to Cook Without a Book by Pam Anderson. It has great, simple recipes that are good for everyday cooking.

My second goal will involve some sort of site work or redesign. I haven’t decided whether I am going to try to move to a whole new theme or try to optimize the one I’m using.

My third goal is to run some sort of contest with a prize. This is in conjunction with Foodbuzz, who gave me some money as a May site development bonus. So I am considering ways to reinvest that. More on that Tuesday.

Thanks again to everyone reading for a great May. Please email me or leave a comment with suggestions or requests that you have for the site.

The Professional Knife Kit is out of print. It has been apparently replaced with In The Hands of a Chef, which I have not seen.

My blog post of March 25 has the names of several knife books in addition to those two.
