Breakfast Links See Double
July 27, 2008
I was moving furniture last Saturday, so we get an extra large breakfast links again this weekend. There are just too many good things to link to…
Recipe of the Week:
Fried Squash Blossoms - Anne from Cooking with Anne gives us a recipe for fried squash blossoms. When I was in Italy two summers ago on an archaeological dig, an old Italian couple, Bruno and Bepina, cooked for us most nights. One of the many delicious treats they made was ‘Fiore di Zucco’ - or fried zucchini flowers. Delicious.
Comment of the Week:
I’m not entering the contest as we have more than we can use, however interesting Pyrex fact.
The 200? mirror of the Palomar telescope was made of Pyrex and when cooled was shipped cross country via railway. Because of problems it was the second one cast and the first can be seen at the Corning museum in NY. ntsc
Links:
- Katie at Chaos in the Kitchen teaches how to dice a tomato (a surprisingly tricky task without the right technique) and has a recipe for strawberry cheesecake ice cream.
- Boscoe the Cookie Doctor has no-bake chocolate and peanut butter oatmeal bars. Just looks at the pictures - I must eat them.
- Ben at What’s Cooking? gives us a tried and true recipe for mexican pizza. After making my margherita pizza, I really want to try this.
- Kathy at Start Cooking has a really good primer for new cooks on working with tomatoes. Very informative and helpful.
- Proud Italian Cook talks about burrata cheese. I’d never heard of it before but the pictures make it look quite tasty.
- Peter at Kalofagas gives us two treats: traditional Greek souvlaki and loukoumades, a delicious Greek donut-type food. Souvlaki is something I’d like to try making sometime and loukoumades are just good.
- Deeba at Passionate about Baking gives us a nice looking rustic Italian focaccia bread and a recipe for peach-mango ice cream.
- Simply Recipes teaches how to turn a kettle grill into a smoker. This article caught my eye because at the end of June, I went to a wedding out in farmland Iowa. At the reception they served this amazing smoked pork loin. I think it was good partly because the pig probably had been slaughtered just a couple days before, and because it was smoked well. Smoking meats is something I want to try.
- Last, but certainly not least, Katy at Sugarlaws made homemade marshmallows.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Thanks for including me! I’m moving in three weeks, so this week and next week are use-up-kitchen-ingredient weeks, and then there will be a very sad all-my-cooking-equipment-is-packed-away week!
